Hey everyone! I have a 3 year old who has asthma and allergies...?
...we have had him to the doctor twice last week, he has an inhaler already and now we are being referred to a specialst for allergies and asthma. Has anyone been through thi, and if so could please tell me what happens with the specialist, I have been told he will have to have about 90 needle sticks in his back, tha sounds dreadful, but I don't want him to suffer. Please help.

Hi My "baby is 12 now but has had asthma since he was 18 months old. He see an asthma specialist and had the 100 allergen test. It was not painful for him at all just itchy. The doctor used the preset allergen tray with 25 allergens per tray and did four locations on his back the probes are not needles but a little scratchy brush the barely scratches the skin and the allergen is in the brush. They then wait 20 minutes and if a hive or whelp shows up it is a positive reaction to what ever was on that probe. the nurse then washes the area off and applies benadryl cream to soothe it.
After that each visit is more like a check up and medicaton adjustment if needed. I hated the thought of the allergy testing too but after many many midnight trips to the ER and 5 week long stays we got it done and now know what to avoid and when to increase a medicine and what to watch for.
