How does surgical removal of appendix affect health?!
Question: How does surgical removal of appendix affect health?
Answers:
"Does it shorten ones' lifespan?" -- Let me put it this way -- if an inflamed appendix is ignored and allowed to rupture and the infectious contents spill into the abdominal cavity (peritonitis), THAT will shorten one's lifespan considerably! An appendix is a vestigial organ and you can live with or without it.
I'm a nurse.
I'm 63, and I had mine removed back when they still used bone tools and wore skins. Other than the stone club anesthetic, I was fine after surgery and haven't had any complaints or problems since. And as far as I know, I should live to a ripe older age unless killed by a bear.
no. it serves no necessary function. It is a left-over remnant from when we used to eat more grass and leaves and things like that. As we evolved, it grew less and less useful to us. It will have no negative health effects.
Yes - you never have another case of appendicitis again, thus, it makes you more healthy in this one aspect. There are no negative consequences to having your appendix removed.

The appendix really isn't used by the body anymore for much of anything. My father had his removed at least 30 yrs ago - I don't recall him having any issues related to that since then - He's 75 now
Not at all. The appendix serves no purpose in your body. You're fine. :)
Mine ruptured at 21.. I'm sixty and the only way I would know is the scar.. Don't worry..
