What's it like while admitted in a hospital?!

Question:

What's it like while admitted in a hospital?

I have a phobia of meds...and I have a panic disorder...I cant take the meds...so I want to check myself in so I can take them and be monitored the whole time...

Whats the treatment like there? Whats it like in general? how long will it last? Can I bring like an mp3 player or a gameboy or something? will they let me do that? Whats the sleeping conditions like...etc...Thanks

Answers:

just b/c you have fear of taking medications doesn't mean that you will be admitted to the hospital to take them.

to be constantly monitored requires either admittance to a telemetry floor or the ICU which requires you to be having major heart problems or be in critical condition.

if you report to the er and tell them you're scared to take your pills-they'll hold you in the er for several hours, order a psych consult (which means a pysch dr will come evaluate you and ask you a ton of questions) and the either determine you mentally ill and place you in a pysch ward or release you back home.

you're best bet would be to seek counseling for this issue
