Why do people have problems controlling their bladder at night?!

Question:

Why do people have problems controlling their bladder at night?

I've always wanted to know why some people wet the bed, or continually have to wake up and go at night. Is their a physical problem, or is it phycological?

Answers:

It depends on what is causing the problem. In an older man it might be an enlarged prostate. In a women it could be weak bladder muscles from having lots of children that weakened the muscles. In younger people it could be that their bladder muscles are not totally developed. Maybe they are a super sound sleeper and thier body doesn't wake them up in time to use the bathroom at night. It could be someone who can't get out of bed well alone and they are afraid to ask for help at night and end up wetting the bed. If someone drinks caffiene or alcohol at night that can also affect the bladder. There are tons more reasons but this gives you some idea of what can cause it. It the case of my son he didn't wet the bed but he urinated on the floor or down his register at times as I think he was afraid of his dad being up and yelling at him for being up in the middle of the night. His dad was a heavy drinker at the time.
