Asbestosis refers simply to scarring of the lungs by asbestosis. It causes a condition that in some ways is similar to emphysema, in that it makes you permanently short of breath and cannot be cured; it commonly takes 20 years or so from the time of exposure to develop symptoms, and may take another 20 - 30 years before you run out of breath permanently, so to speak. Smoking tends to accelerate the process, though.
On the other hand, asbestos can cause lung cancer, as well as mesothelioma - two very aggressive types of cancer with low cure rates and short life expectancies. 50% of people diagnosed with mesothelioma die within a year; very very few survive more than 5 years.
For what it's worth, I'll be praying for you; and remember, even if the Lord votes in your favour, it's only on a temporary basis - someday He'll call you in for a face-to-face meeting!
