Is it possible for a respiratory therapist to become ECMO certified? If so how d!
Question:
Is it possible for a respiratory therapist to become ECMO certified? If so how do you go about getting it?
Answers:
The best way is to work at a hospital that has ECMO and you can in inquire with them about training. John Hopkins has a training program that you can take but I'm not sure about the details. In NC UNC Hospital offers a program for RT's, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winstom Salem also has a program as well as Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. I think the ability to be certified also depends on the state you practice in and what you as an RT can do and how much of our skills they let us use. Some states seem to have very little respect for Respiratory Therapists as a profession so they don't give us as much liberty in our allowed skills. Others give us lots of leadway. The East Coast loves RT's we can do tons here. If you by chance are in NC contact one of those hospitals or call John Hopkins in MD and find out about their training program. Hope this helps.
