Should I tell the tennis coach that I am a diabetic?!

Question: Should I tell the tennis coach that I am a diabetic?
PLEASE NOTE: This is just for tryouts. I may or may not make the team. If I do make the team, then I obviously will let them know about my diabetes. I am just talking about tryouts!!!!!!

So yeah, I am trying out for hte tennis team. Tryouts are next Monday-Wednesday. They are 2 hours per day. I will need to check my blood sugar and maybe adjust a couple times during the tryout, so I will, at some points, have to stop playing so I could check my blood sugar.

Should I email or see the coach and let him know that I am a diabetic and will need to test my blood sugar during the tryout? What should I say?

Answers:

Yes, because what if something happens and he has no idea what's going on with you. Just tell him what you just wrote on here. "I will need to check my blood sugar and maybe adjust a couple times during the tryout, so I will, at some points, have to stop playing so I could check my blood sugar."

Get to try-outs a bit early and let the coach know. Simply say "I'm diabetic and will need to check my sugar after 30 minutes" or whatever the case may be.
My son has played football, baseball, and participated in crew and none of the coaches ever treated him badly because of his diabetes.

either tell the coach before tryouts or send in an email saying that he should be aware that you are diabetic, and that you may have to stop a couple of times during tryouts to check your blood sugar and make adjustment, but that it should not affect tryouts otherwise.

good luck with tryouts :)

Why would you want to hide the fact that you are diabetic? Yes you should tell him. If he gives you some flack, he is an ignorant person and you would be better off trying another sport. Good Luck.

Yes, tell him. They'll want to know, and most school like to have some kind of snack around for diabetic kids, so if you feel faint they can give it to you. For some reason, schools don't like when you faint. :)

i think you should really let them know because if something was to happen to you they would have no idea what is wrong with you. its best to be on the safe side and let them know. : )
