I have a phobia of vomiting. Do you think I'll catch the virus? Please help!

Question: I have a phobia of vomiting. Do you think I'll catch the virus? Please help!?
Today a girl came late to school and walked passed me so I asked why she was late (I know her). She knows I have a HUGE PHOBIA of vomiting and said she had been vomiting all morning...I freaked out. I saw her a couple of times throughout the day and I tried to keep a distance but just to tease me she got close to me and laughed - I almost cried. If she has the stomach flu, do you think there's any possible way I could've caught it? I'm sure I touched things like door handles after her and such but I put antibacterial on my hands like 4,000 times even though I've heard that putting it on too much increases your chances of getting sick - not sure if that's true though.

Please let me know what you think, I am very concerned! :(

Hi, Heather! Hopefully this answer will ease your worries.

First of all...ignore the first person who responded....total moron.

The phobia related to vomiting is known as Emetophobia. I used to suffer from it myself and still do to an extent.

Let me assure you that you will be completely fine. You would either had to have been around her while she was vomiting or you would have had to touch something she contaminated and then touched your face (eyes, nose, mouth). It sounds like norovirus, also known as the stomach flu. However it could have easily been food poisoning, or any other number of ailments. Many things other than a virus can make you vomit and not all of them are contagious.

Norovirus is spread through the fecal-oral route. Disgusting I know, but this should make you feel better. As long as you didn't touch a surface she did and touched your face right after her you will be fine. And to make you feel even better: it isn't even spread through saliva unless the person recently vomited. So as long as you were not around her when she was throwing up and you kept your hands sanitized you will more than likely be fine. I know how hard it is to stop worrying, but I can almost guarantee you won't get sick.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions. :)

You may but you may not it's really out of your hands. If you are concerned then wear a mask or something like that so it will make it less likely for you to get germs. She may not have had a virus could've been drinking or something which made her sick or she could've had food poisoning

I used to have a phobia of it too. You should be fine though, she may have not been sick it could have been food poisoning or something else thats not contagious. Even if it was something you could catch its not likly as long as she wasnt breathing all over you.
