what happens when you water fills your lungs?!

Question: What happens when you water fills your lungs?
my grandfather just went to the hospital because he suddenly had a heartattack and when we wanted to take him to the hospital he could not move (walk) even when he would stand he would fall without support. I'm really scared because when i asked this in wikianswers the only answers were he will drown or die. So i was wondering could anyone explain what he has and could he get better? also please explain it in simple words because im 11 thx and if it helps hes 88 and 11 months and a long time ago he had cancer and he was(15 years ago) a heavy smoker

Answers:

problem with fluid in the lungs is it prevents the proper amount of oxygen to get into the lungs to get into the blood stream so the body can get the oxygenated blood to the rest of the body.. yes the body does start to drown BUT the problem can be fixed with diffenative care.

I hope that works I'm trying not to use any big words
