MRSA??? Once you have this bug...do you always have it?!

Question:

MRSA??? Once you have this bug...do you always have it?

Just curious, due to the surgeries I will need in the near future. Had a bad experience with this MRSA. I woke up in hospital after a car wreck..lotsa broken bones and head injuries. They went to put me back together, I guess that is when I caught the "bug". About 10 days after the surgery, I started to notice an ugly irritation around the incision scar. I asked the doctors to look at it..and without even an opinion from another doctor, he advised me that it could possibly be MRSA. Needless to say, 5 days later, after many types of antibiotics, the MRSA was growing and getting stronger. They went into my inscisions and "debreaded" the area to see if that would help. It did for about 3 days..but then it came back.
Finally, they gave me a drug called "Zyvox". Very expensive. I was released from the hospital not fully recovered from the MRSA, given prescription for zyvox. Good thing I had insurance...$6000/60/day supply. Just want to make sure it isn't coming back.

Answers:

you should hope you won't get it again.
MRSA is a serious infection usually cought in hospitalized patients. patients with long hospital stay an long term foreign bodies in body sites(IV catheters, indwelling foley catheters, prostheses, etc.), those who can not be ambulated easily(bed ridden) , and patients who undergo emergent surgeries are at higher risk for hospital acquired infections including MRSA infection.
you see you have had most of the risk factors above in your previous hospital admission. but you have taken proper and complete treatment and for your future elective surgeries, especially if you can be discharged after a few days, ther is no much chance for MRSA. be hopeful! good luck!
