Question: What are the common side effects of reducing Prednisolone streroids gradually? I?
I have been on a high dose (65mg) daily for a few months but been on at least 50mg for a year. I am about to have surgery which will get me off steroids for life and sort the issue full stop. I have started to slowly reduce my steroids in anticipation for a date to have my surgery. I am now on 35mg daily and probably wont reduce further until I have that date.
What are the side effects of reducing the steroids? Can they cause more spots or rashes etc?
The side effects I have with being on the steroids are awful. I have bad moon face, weight gain which I think is steroid retention (water retention), spots on the face, and leg cramps.
I am assuming once I stop the steroids all these side effects will eventually go and my body will return to normal again? ie face, stomach, etc?

Sorry to hear of your inevitable and classical steroid side side effects. Very slow reduction should have few side effects. The biggest risk is infections failing to stimulate an adequate immune response as your adrenals will have stopped producing endogenous steroid. I am sure that you have a steroid card that warns you of the risks. Hope your surgery goes well and solves your problem.
