Question:
My sed rate is 53. What can you tell me about this please?
im 39 and female
Answers:
Mildly elevated and very nonspecific. SED RATE is done by placing blood in a specific tube and measure how far it settles in 1 hour. Protein as an acute phase reactant can "thin" your blood and make it settle more in that hour. Females I believe is 0-30 in 1 hour. Frequently used in arthritis patients to gauge degree of activity. ...... Infection, inflammation, and irritation can increase the SED rate. but does not tell where... Very crude AND vague test but can be of importance sometimes. Serum protein electrophoresis MAY BE more reliable but still is vague at this level ....Talk to your doctor
