It could be a pile that you have. You can buy haemorrhoid (pile) cream in places like Tesco or a pharmacy. So you could try using that to see if the swelling goes down, it also has a little anaesthetic in it so if its painful then this will help ease that too.
Really though the usual answer is that if the lump doesnt go away you really should get it checked out.
