What does an ulcer feel like?!

Question:

What does an ulcer feel like?

For the last year I have had these episodes off and on where my stomach has this gnawing burn. Nothing phases it. I've tried antacids, food, pepto...It will strike for a few weeks (it's always worse at night) and then disappear again. I said something to my mom about it and she thought it may be an ulcer. I guess my dad used to have them. Does this sound like an ulcer? How do they diagnose an ulcer?

Answers:

This definitely sounds like an ulcer. The symptoms of a peptic ulcer include chronic burning or gnawing stomach pain that usually begins forty-five to sixty minutes after eating, or at night, and that is relieved by eatin, taking antacids, vomiting, or drinking a large glass of water. The pain may range from mild to severe. It may cause an individual to awaken in the middle of the night. Other symptoms include lower back pain, headaches, a choking sensation, itching, and possible nausea or vomiting.

There are many causes, including stress, taking drug supplements that increase acid production such as aspirin, steroids, smoking, eating too much meat and drinking alcohol and coffee. Eating at irregular times or skipping meals can be a possible cause. Having a family history of peptic ulcers also increases your risk.

Drinking aloe vera is very good for pain relief and speeds healing. Take 4-ounces of aloe vera juice daily. Be sure to buy a food-grade product.

Consult your doctor for treatment. Most peptic ulcers heal, but this may take 8 weeks or longer.
