I have read cases being reversed or in remission after the removal of mercury fillings - but - is there any documentation as to whether those cases of remission were ever later affected by flare-ups of the disease ?

I don't believe there has ever been proof of mercury being linked to MS other than anectodal stories you hear on the internet. My personal belief is that people who claim this either thankfully have a very mild form of MS that is in a long remission, or else they are flat out trying to scam people.
I myself have never even had a filling, yet I am using a walker & wheelchair at age 31 - only 5 years after being diagnosed with MS. There is definately no link of mercury to my MS :)
