Answers:

Well, the best thing you could do for your poor skin and the spot would be to apply moist heat and leave it alone. Since you tried popping it, you more than likely damaged the follicle and may have introduced skin surface bacteria into the mix- which may make matters worse before they improve. Your body already has a plan in place to deal with both invaders and ingrowing hairs, and would appreciate it if you left it to do the job unassisted. With heat applications, the increased blood supply to the area will attack said same hair and force it to the surface. It will form a whitehead, much like a zit. Keep applying heat, and it will open and drain. At that point, if you see the hair, and can get a hold of it with a tweezer, you can remove it. Otherwise, the body will reject it all on it's own. Leaving the body to do the job will speed things along and make it heal up afterwards a lot faster and leave less of a scar. Picking at it will simply get it infected, making the problem bigger and more painful- as you have discovered already. It can get worse, though. In the meantime, cover it with a bandaid so it's not being constantly rubbed and irritated. Just apply heat and wait it out. With heat it should resolve itself in a few days, if you can be patient and leave it in peace otherwise. Trust your skin, it knows what it's doing.
