Shoul I rest or work being sick?!

I have a lump on the left side of my adbomen which is paining a little. I notice though when I decide not to focus on the pain it doesn't pain. When I take my mind off it it doesn't pain. When I focus on it it pains more. However, since it it a bulging lump it is serious and should see the doctor soon. I don't know if I should rest until I go to the doctor later or shift my focus away from it and do housework (clean the house) I'm fine when I don't think about it, though the pain comes now and then. I'm just scared working might make the condition worse (it could be an abcess or hernia) but there will be less pain if I keep busy.
