A person is very ill and dying, fluids stopped, how long will they last?!

Two weeks ago my mum who was dying from liver cancer had her fluids stopped and was put on a morphine pump at 2.30pm she died just after midnight.

The doctors were unable to give a time line other than it won't be too long and not to go. Basically they told me her kidneys would stop working and gradually the body would not be able to clear the system and it would back up towards her heart which would eventually stop.

Her breathing was very rattly but just before she died it became quieter and with shorter breaths and then just stopped, very peacefully.

If your loved one has been placed on the Liverpool Care Pathway the medical professionals must feel that they are in their last 24 hours. If you have any concerns speak to the care providers.

So sorry to hear that. You'd need to ask the doctor who is looking after them.
