What if I have augmentin 875 mg, can I break the tablets in half?!

Question:

What if I have augmentin 875 mg, can I break the tablets in half?

I have amox/k clav prescription for 875 mg, but only have 9 of them....usual dosage is 500 mg.....can I take less or are the pills 875 mg amox on one side and 125 clavulanate potassium on the other side?

Answers:

You have to love it "875 mg. means amox. 500 mg. and clav. 125 mg." Apparently, someone didn't do well in math.

As others have said, the ingredients are mixed. Taking less than the prescribed dose or for less than the prescribed time is setting you up for an infection by a resistant bacteria. Bad idea.
It's best to get a new Rx.
