Question: Does anyone know how to quit smoking without using the patch or gums?

try these tips:

-whenever you REALLY crave a cigg, put a timer on for five minutes and dont light it until the timer goes off.. do this and gradually work your way to 10, 15, 20, and even 30 minutes. chew some gum or drink water in the process.

-BELIEVE in yourself, and KNOW that you can quit

-make a list of all the positives of quitting smoking (ex: save money, live longer, dont always have the smell of smoke.. ect) and hang it where you can see it every day.

-set a quit date. write down a date when you will never ever have a cigarette again. write it down, plan for it, and prepare yourself for it.

-exercise

-get a friend to quit with you. knowing someone else is going through something with you can encourage you to keep it up. you could be each other’s place to fall back on

-think of what you are doing to youself every time you light a cigg. whenever you take a puff, think of a negative thing (ex: i am hurting other’s around me, over 400, 000 people die EACH YEAR doing what i am doing right now)

-some people think its easier to quit “cold turkey” than trying to gradually move off it. see what works best for you and come up with your own special tips

-when craving a cigg start cooking a meal that needs maintaining, that way you can’t stop to have a smoke.

-buy one pack of ciggs at a time, and switch to a brand that you dont like

-start only smoking in certain places such as outdoors.

Will power, using the mind to controll what you do and think, I tried this method to loose weight and my Friend tried it at the same time to stop smoking, it worked for both of us, but every one is different, it took time to learn the techniques, but within a few days we both saw the change not only with smoking and the weight but it began to change the way we feel and our lifestyle. its very hard to stop smoking , every one is different and has there own way of stoping , ...i stopped after 45 yrs , not because i had severe lung and respitery problems , but for the fact that every day i had to hand over £5 .60p
every day so i cld get my fags,
i look back and see what an awfull lot of money i,d wasted .. i wld have been just as well throwing the money on the fire , because thats what i was basicly doing anyway
i,m six yrs stoped now . and i did it with nicotine lozengers , each one lasts 30 mins , and by the time u suck it the craving is gone , i also got them on prescepion from my dr , u can have as many as u need ,
and it realy works , so try it and the best of luck , let us know how u get on ,
oh bye the way the £35 i was saving i took driving lessons and passed my test now i have a wee car and have never looked bk , seriously u will feel so much better , if u manage to stop

Will power that's how I did it, I gave myself a new goal in life which was to learn to drive. I couldn't afford both, best thing I ever did.
