Does baking soda help acid reflux?!

Question: Does baking soda help acid reflux?
I'm a 15 year old girl. My food comes up everytime I burp and I feel a little pain in my chest. I've had this for two years. Will drinking baking soda with water help me keep my food down?

Answers:

If you have had it for two years then u should probably go to the doctor. I know they will give you medicine you can take that should help with acid reflux. Be careful because you don't want to mess up your stomach any further.

"The stomach should be an incredibly acidic place in order for complete digestion to occur. The acid in the stomach starts to break down proteins in food, kills off bacteria and parasites and releases minerals from food. There are also a multitude of digestive enzymes that aid the digestive process throughout the digestive tract. These continue the breakdown of protein, fats and carbohydrates and the release of nutrients.Without sufficient amounts of either stomach acid or digestive enzymes digestive symptoms as well as a bacterial imbalance and nutrient deficiencies can arise.

Causes

Poor diet, stress, nutrient deficiencies, improper eating habits, poor chewing and overeating can all contribute an insufficiency of digestive juices.

Symptoms

Heartburn
Acid reflux
Belching
Gas
Diarrhoea or constipation
Symptoms of nutrient deficiencies
Discomfort after eating
Slow digestive process
Cravings

Treatment

Eating habits such as sitting down, taking time to eat slowly, chewing thoroughly, avoiding stress around meal times and supplementing with Hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes and/or herbs to aid digestion are generally recommended."

The best method is digestive enzyme supplements with meals but they do cost money. Other natural ways include

Anise
Peppermint
Lavender
Bananas
Papaya
Aloe juice
Pineapples
A couple of teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
A teaspoon full of mustard
Chicory root
Cinnamon
A mixture of baking powder and half a glass of water

1. You SERIOUSLY need to adjust what you are eating, reducing carbs, and trying to avoid foods that cause the burping. YOU DO have control over this, you just need to make an effort to exercise the control you have.

2. You CAN take baking soda with water, BUT!!! It elevates your sodium level, which is VERY hard on your heart and blood pressure. While the baking soda thing is okay on an OCCASIONAL basis, everyday will hurt you more than help you.

3. You NEED to see a doctor about this, because acid reflux causes stomach acid to come back up into your lower esophagus, which is NOT designed to handle it. Over time (and since you are young, your body is still "young and tender," it WILL burn the lower part of your esophagus. The condition is called "Barrett's Syndrome," and it is considered a PRE-CANCEROUS condition of the esophagus.

Make changes NOW. Eat less, eat more vegetables and less carbs or fried foods, increase your FIBER...It's kind of a drag, but worth it not to die from acid reflux.

I know about this, because I ignored my acid reflux for several years, until pain made me go to the doctor, and tests (expensive!) showed I had a pre-cancerous esophagus (the photos show blackened tissue from the stomach acid). I am now on daily medication, and have had to change my eating habits...
