Answers:

Your numbers are all great. They used to say LDL should be below 129. Now they're saying 100, so you're even in the new optimal range. Your HDLs are good for a man, but you want to keep them high. Considering the low total cholesterol, 48 is great.

While you can theoretically have too low cholesterol, you're not there. Your liver will make more if it's needed.

LDL = Total - HDL - (Triglycerides / 5). You have a bit of a rounding error (98 vs 99), but you can see how it all fits together this way.

Each country is slightly different in how they measure the level of glucose, cholesterol, trigyceride etc, for example in Australia we measure blood sugar levels between 4 to 6 mmol/L, anything above or below is considered abnormal. In America its slightly different 135 to 140 milligrams per deciliter is the normal ranges and anything above or below is abnormal.

So it stands to reason that other test such as cholesterol etc is going to read/measure differently. So going by the American online website, your cholesterol is good, as is your HDL C & LDL C and fasting Glucose. However it is better that you speak to your doctor about the results, they hopefully will explain what the results mean, and if they are within the normal range.

I am a type 1 Diabetic, which means I need insulin four times daily.

Congratulations! Your numbers all look great.

Especially:

Glucose < 100
Total Cholesterol < 200
HDL > 40
LDL < 100

And yes, you are correct about the cholesterol. 200 is when Kenny Loggins begins singing "Highway to the Danger Zone," and 300 is way too bloody much. Mine's always been in the 120's, and I'm hardly ever sick.

This is an answer you will be surprised to hear - your cholesterol is too low.

"Raise up a cheer if your cholesterol is between 200 and 300. Your brain needs cholesterol to function, as does your nervous system and your entire endocrine system–which adds up to pretty much everything that goes on in your body.

Let me be blunt: If you don’t have enough cholesterol, your brain function hits the skids. You’re inviting dementia if you keep up the low cholesterol tango. Since our bodies make all hormones from cholesterol our endocrine system takes a whack when our cholesterol levels fall below 200. Any way you want to look at it, low cholesterol levels invite danger.

Besides creating weak muscles, stuttering brains and no energy, low cholesterol invites cancer and strokes. The death rate goes up as cholesterol is artificially reduced to 180 or below. A cholesterol level of 160 or below increases your chances of heart problems. And at 150, Katy bar the door, because that’s where you start sending out engraved invitations to cancer and stroke. Alzheimer’s joins the party at about 130."

Abnormally low levels of cholesterol may indicate:

Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid gland
Liver disease
Malabsorption
Inadequate absorption of nutrients from the intestines
Malnutrition
Manganese deficiency has also been linked to low cholesterol levels (hypocholesterolemia).

Hemorrhagic strokes are also linked to cholesterol levels that are below normal. One study found that men with cholesterol levels below 150 mg/dl had four times the risk of cerebral hemorrhage compared with men with cholesterol levels above 190 mg/dl.
