Does this sound like an absence seizure?!

Question: Does this sound like an absence seizure?
I was diagnosed with petit mal epilepsy but have been fine since about age 10. No more episodes or neuro visits since then. I had an episode, went to the neurologist and they did and EEG and EKG, I have to call for the results on Monday. But something similar happened again:

I was in math talking to my friend and I blacked out again; when I "came back" I guess you can say, my friend was asking me if I was ok and I was like yeah...nothing happened...she told me I was just staring at a spot for 1 min. I don't remember it!!

What do you think?

Answers:

This sounds very similar to an absence seizure. A variety of things can trigger seizures including lack of sleep, different medications, alcohol, or high stress. Absence seizures can be triggered by hyperventilation when an EEG is being administered. Either way they are very easily treated, and it could possibly have just been an isolated event due to a compilation of triggers in your day. Perhaps the EEG result will give you a bit more information! Hope you are feeling well.
