I had an echocardiogram. What do hatched lines mean?!

Question: I had an echocardiogram. What do hatched lines mean?
Technician drew a yellow hatched triangle that he stretched out over an area on the heart scan and he was also drawing blue (or green?) hatched lines from the center of the scan outward like he was measuring something on the scan.

What was he measuring? Does this mean there might be something wrong? Or is this standard?

My doctor won't get the results until Monday...do I'm wondering.

Answers:

The tech was not drawing the colored lines. He was turning on the doppler analysis of that portion of the image. Doppler color imaging shows the flow of the blood through the heart. Since it's normal for blood to flow through the heart (!), it's likely that what you saw was normal. (The imaging shows where the blood flows, and pressure differences between parts of the heart. These measurements can be normal or abnormal. Wait for the report on Monday.)
