I have a small lump on the palm side of my middle finger....?!

Question: I have a small lump on the palm side of my middle finger....?
...It's on the second joint, is hard and has a blue green color.
It's also painful to the touch and when I extend my finger. I'm wondering if it's serious or can it wait for my local doctor to have a look at it? Oh, I've also got pain in my left wrist.

Answers:

A lump on your finger could be from many things. Most commonly Verruca Vulgaris (common wart) will produce a raised round area with a thickening of the skin. Over the counter freeze treatments are often affective at removing them. Another possibile cause of a lump on your finger is a ganglion cyst, which is a benign fluid filled sack that grows off of the tendon or joints of the fingers and wrist. Ganglion cysts will be deeper, located under the skin. A common way to treat them is to hit them with a glass jar in order to pop the cyst. Using a needle to remove the fluid is often ineffective because they often return. Finally, skin cancer is possible, there are 3 main types from most common to least: Squamous cell, Basal cell and Melanoma. Squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma often occur in sun exposed areas - typically on the cheecks to each side of the nose. An impaired immune system, often from corticosteroid use or AIDs will increase ones risk for these cancers. Squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma can have a variety of appearances, they are often first mistaken for a pimple that will not heal. Basal cell carcinoma is said to have a pearly appearance to the skin. Melanoma often does not occur in sun exposed areas. The appearance is described with the "A,B,C,Ds" Abnormal appearance, Boarders are irregular, Color - variety of colors, Diameter greater than an ereaser head.

Just in case this is indeed a serious issue, it's best to have your doctor check it out. The color being so unusual is what I would find more of a concern than the lump itself, but in any case it's best to have the doctor look at it as soon as you are able to do so. Good luck!

I would talk to your doctor about that. My first thought was that it was just a vein, I have something like that on my middle finger too, but since its hurting there might be a problem.
