I am 75 lbs overweight. If I lose at least 25, hopefully 50, will my prediabetic!

Question: I am 75 lbs overweight. If I lose at least 25, hopefully 50, will my prediabetic condition go away?
I am a 49 yr old female, 5'6" 220 lbs. I am in the pre-diabetic stage, fasting glucose is 117. I am also having thirst problems, which may be from being prediabetic or could possibly be from entering menopause. If I lose a really good portion of the weight, like 50 lbs, and the thirst is from pre-diabetes, will it go away? What if it is from menopause, does anybody know if weight could be a part of that?

Answers:

Yes, more than likely it will go away. A blood sugar of 117 won't make you thirsty. Your blood sugars would have to be over 250 to make you thirsty. You'd also have frequent urination at that blood sugar level. Did your doctor order a post-prandial blood glucose test? He/she should. It is the only way to know for sure if you are already diabetic. It checks your blood sugar 2 hours after a meal or after the lab gives you a bottle of special sickly-sweet soda to drink.
Even if you are a "full-blown" diabetic, losing even 25 lbs might make it go away.

I am a diabetic, and it's a proven fact that losing weight, can lower and even eliminate, pre diabetis. even 5 to 10 pounds can make a big difference. menopause is a given regardless of how much we eat or weigh. no way to get rid of that one. keep an eye on your condition but a fasting glucose of 117 is excellent. good luck.

Losing weight is the one of the best things to do to help you control diabetes. If you are pre-diabetic that means you have a chance to stop it from forming into diabetes. The being thirsty is a pretty good sign of diabetes. Good luck I lost 40 lbs and I was lucky that I got to stop taking insulin.
