How do you know if you have MS?!

Question: How do you know if you have MS?
Today I was talking to someone and they said I have most of the symptoms of MS. But I don't wanna go to the doctor and find out b/c then I might not be able to join the army. How do I know if I have it or not with out going to the doctor

Answers:

Who were you talking to? Unless that person is a neurologist and preferably one that specializes in MS, then there is no way they could make even a tentative MS diagnosis like that. Even the specialized neurologist that diagnosed me did not mention MS until he saw my MRIs - and before that I had been tested for everything else including Lyme's disease, viral infections, epilepsy etc. etc.

The problem with MS is that there are a vast number of diseases and minor issues that can mimic MS symptoms, which is why an MS diagnosis starts out by eliminating all other possible causes. Also, MS can cause a large number of symptoms, so almost no matter what symptom you have, you can look it up and find an MS match.

Bottom line is you cannot know if you have MS without seeing a neurologist, not even your regular doctor can diagnose you with MS.

In the unlikely event that you have MS (it only affects 0,2% of the general population), it will be better to know sooner than later. With relapsing-remitting MS the earlier you start treatment, the better your overall prognosis is likely to be. Also, what is the point of joining the military if it turns out later that you have MS and you find out because you can't keep up. Then you will only have wasted theirs, and your own, time.

Diagnosed with MS in 2003.

The army will require you to get a physical and full exam anyways if you decide to join so if you do have MS you will not be able to join the army and you will find out either way.

Is it Multiple sclerosis or mitral stenosis;either way no going to army...
