Question: Two months ago I started to have flu like symptoms which turned out (probably) to be due to a double abscess?
so I had a root canal and was treated with the anti-biotic clindamycin to clear residual infection

two days after dental treatment I flew to Belize but spent five of the ten days in bed 24/7 sleeping the whole time and with severe diarrhea and headache.

Eventually saw doc in Belize who diagnosed food poisoning but I was wondering about the clindamycin that can cause colitis?

Anyway returned to USA but a full one month later I am oversleeping (14 hours last night for example) and exhausted and depressed all the time.

Can this exhaustion last a full month after abscess - possible food poisoning?

My doc gave me all clear two weeks ago following stool samples results and I'll make another appointment monday but I was just interested if any docs or nurses etc online had any ideas re post bacterial infection fatigue cos this has wiped me out.

Answers:

I'm not a doctor but I am a Registered Nurse albeit in the UK.
You diagnosed yourself right at the end there.
You do most likely have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome caused in your case by a bacterial infection not a viral one.
It can easily last this long and yes you should return to your doctor for some advice on how best to get over this.
You might need blood tests to see how well your immune system is coping and it's not unheard of that you might benefit from a course of different antibiotics to make sure you are clear of the bacteria.
However let your doctor decide this, he can see you, I cannot.
He has much more experience in these things than I do.
Get well soon.
