Rash??????

whenever i go swimming in my pool i get this rash all over my body. on my thighs, underneath my legs, on my back, on my arms, and all around my shoulders. is it from cholrine or something else?

Answers:

It could be due to several different reasons, ranging from bacterial to chemical reaction. So the first step would be to have the water checked. Pseudomonas is an infamous cause of rashes in pools, because it loves water and moist wet spots around them. It could also be the pH or the chlorine levels need to be adjusted better. Controlling the disinfectant levels of the pool water and adjusting for proper pH would eliminate the bacteria in the pool water- if it's there- and eliminate troubles due to the chemicals. It won't do much for bacteria living around the pool, however. For that you need to disinfect the decking around it, and the chairs, etc. Everyone getting into the pool should wash down first with an antibacterial soap. And of course, you'd want to do a regular disinfection of the areas around the pool itself. If you have an outside shower area, especially if it tends to stay soaked and not allowed to get dried out completely, thats another area to disinfect. You can pick up bacteria in all those spots, and if you are damp, and lay out in the damp suit, it gets a chance to get into the follicles and pores, and cause nice rashes and breakouts. It can also be a chemical interaction between your sunscreen and the pool chemicals, or your soap. You just have to play around with those to find out if thats the answer. But at the very least, start with checking pool hygiene and maintenance. Kill them where they live, keep them from coming back. What you describe is called Hot Tub or Pool Rash, and those are the main culprits. And they can be hard to nail down an exact cause sometimes, so good luck.
