do you have to keep insulin refrigerated?!
Question: Do you have to keep insulin refrigerated?
Answers:
No, under certain conditions. First - you must start using that vial immediately. It has a month after you open it and/or not refrigerate it. You can't have a backup vial on your person for use after the one you have is done. Also, you should keep it at a consistent temperature. If it goes hot/cold/hot/cold it's going to lose it's effectiveness quickly.
I have a couple of ideas. If you can afford it get a FRIO wallet. It's supposed to keep insulin cool for up to 2 days with no refrigeration. A better idea is to contact your local health department. Maybe they'll keep the insulin for you? You can prefill a few syringes to carry around. I don't know if that would work or not. But the health department might be able to come up with a solution for you anyway. It doesn't hurt to ask.
So long as it does not reach a temperature of more than 80 degrees, no.
Read the papers that come with the insulin!!!!
