How to deal with Costochondritis......?!

Question: How to deal with Costochondritis......?
Trying to make this short, I have been having severe chest pains for quite a while now. At first the doctor thought it was an ulcer. Not the case. Now have been diagnosed with "costochondritis". I am taking naproxen 2-500 mg a day, tylenol extra strength for muscle and body pain and chest rubs with pain cream. It does mask the pain for a while but not for too long. Did not sleep all night, could not find a comfortable position and cannot even wear my bra anymore. The doctor said it would go away in 4 to 6 weeks but am wondering, am I dealing with something chronic here or what? The pain is just as worse as when this all started. Cannot lift anything as it gets worse and am having trouble breathing as the worse part of the pain is right between my breasts. If this is something chronic, don't think I will be able to cope with this. I have also multiple chronic diseases on top of that. Any advice will be greatly appreciated before I crack up.....

Answers:

PLEASE do not add any other painkilling or anti inflammatory drugs to what you are already taking.
You are taking the best combination any more on top of that will get you a visit to ER.
It's not chronic and it will go away, just continue with the drugs you are on and try things like sleeping in a comfy chair if the bed isn't any good.
Leave off the bra till you are pain free, it's just adding pressure to the area affected.
You can cope you already are by having got through a sleepless night, each night will get better just stay positive.
For this time IS the healer.

The pain in the chest, where the ribs and the chest bone meet, is termed as costochondritis. The pain can be milder in the initial stages but if left untreated can become severe as the time passes by.

There are several ways by which you can reduce the pain; the treatment for costochondritis is easy and is cheap too. Rest is considered to be the best treatment for costochondritis; the pain which occurs in the chest is generally due to overuse of that body portion.? So if you provide proper rest to that portion then the inflammation may reduce and you can get relief.

The disease becomes severe if one is exercising continuously, or taking deep breaths or straining their body parts.? So try to relax yourself.

Taking drugs like Advil and Motrin which are anti-inflammatory drugs are considered to be very effective in the treatment for costochondritis.? These drugs are nonsteroidal in nature and are very effective in treating the costochondritis.? Though these drugs do not have any side effects but it is always better to consult a doctor before taking it.? It helps to reduce the pain and controls the inflammation. It might take some time for the pain to subside so dona€?t be impatient.

You can also go for the application of hot packs; these packs when applied on the affected chest may relieve pain. The packs can be applied several times in a day depending on the intensity of the pain.? But if all these methods do not bear any fruit then better consult a doctor and take medications prescribed by him.? If the pain is too severe then the doctor may give you cortisone injections which may reduce the pain.

The disease is curable, you need to have patience.? Practice healthy lifestyle and take proper care of your physique. Never overstrain yourself, try to do work in a relaxed manner.
