can a 21 year old develop liver problems?!

Question: Can a 21 year old develop liver problems?
My sister has been drinking, smoking and doing other drugs since she was 17. She is 21 now. Within the last couple of months, her stomach has suddenly started expanding. (She was only 100 pounds) and now she looks 5 months pregnant. She had multiple tests done and a blood test and she is not pregnant. What would cause this? I am very worried about her and she is to scared to see a doctor. It is expanding fast.. but it is not a flabby stomach. It looks like a basketball - she honestly looks pregnant but isnt.

any insight?

Thanks

Answers:

Take her to the doctor right freaking now.

Though uncommon, it's entirely possible for her to encounter liver problems at such a young age, especially if she consumed something her body is having a bad reaction to.

The distended (expanding) abdomen COULD just be gas, but it's also a sign of ascites; the build-up of fluid within the abdominal cavity, which is a symptom of liver disease.

The good news is that the liver is one of the few organs in the human body which is capable of self-regeneration, so after your doctor treats the ascites it's quite possible that she may be able to avoid liver failure and even make a full recovery provided she lays off the booze and drugs.

a 21y old can get liver problems, deliver a urine test, sounds more like some intestines that got cough up, can be WERY dangerous .... go to the doc ... asap ...

would she rather die or stop being scared and freakin go there before its to late...
