What are treatment methods you have used for poison sumac?!

Question:

What are treatment methods you have used for poison sumac?

My 5 yr old son has what I believe is poison sumac all over his body and face. Obtained at park while w/day care. He has seen the dr. and is now taking prednisone.

What do you do to help at home w/symptoms? I have tried Benadryl liquid, Aveeno bath and Calamine lotion.

I have also read that you can purchase a cleaner or something that you can wash linens and clothes in specifically desgined to remove the oils from clothing. Does anyone know what the name of this product is and where it can be purchased? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Answers:

There are a number of over-the-counter products that will help your son. Try one of these if you'd like:
aluminum acetate (Burrows solution)
baking soda
Aveeno (oatmeal bath)
aluminum hydroxide gel
calamine
kaolin
zinc acetate
zinc carbonate
zinc oxide

I'm not sure what the cleaner is, but I'm sure you can go into your local pharmacy and ask them. Good Luck. I hope your son feels better soon.
