It all depends on how bad they are.

Are they shaped inside or outside (Atrophic or Hypertrophic) I would try some scar removal creams if you got some money left overs or if your budget is low maybe stick to some home remedies. The best stuff you can use is Bio Oil available over the counter at pharmacies, supermarkets etc. It's designed for scars, stretch marks etc. A workmate of mine had his neck sliced open which required 26 stitches 3 weeks ago. Now there is hardly any redness, in fact you wouldn't really notice it if you didn't know about it. It is a little expensive but a bottle can easily last you for a year! Cocoa butter also helps but is nowhere near as effective and in the long run would probably work out more expensive.

If the scars are old and white I can't think of anything else short of laser surgery, which would set you back a pretty penny and I don't think the the cost/result ratio would be really worth it.

Vitamin E oil can help to fade scars over time.
