Answers:

(1.) I have a hard time breathing on & off & I'm tired a lot could I have asthma??? Yes you could.

(2.) Why or Why not??? Asthma is an allergy that obstructs and restricts airflow in and out of the lungs. Asthma is different from other lung diseases because it can come and go.

(3.) Wouldn't a doctor be able tell if someone has asthma by listening to their lungs & by taking an x-ray of their chest??? Asthmatics will usually have wheezy lungs so if you are having an asthma attack at the doctor’s office, he/she could tell. That said, wheezy lungs could be from other things. The best test for asthma is a pulmonary function test with bronchiole challenge.

(5.) I'm so worried that I'm going to stop breathing because it's hard to breathe a lot. Would this ever happen??? It could. People have died from severe asthma attacks before. If your asthma is IN CONTROLL you can live symptom free.

(7.) What ALL should I do??? I don’t have a doctor's appointment until 2 weeks.
Call your doctors office and see if you can get in any earlier. If not and you can't breath, go to the emergency room at your local hospital. Ask your doctor about a pulmonary function test with bronchiole challenge. Ask him to refer you to an asthma clinic or to a certified asthma educator. A certified asthma educator has AE-C on their name badge or business card.

Asthma is an allergy, learn your triggers and avoid them. Keep records of daily peak flows (the AE-C will teach you this) and know what medications you have and what they are for.

Good luck.
