Question: Feedback? about hiv and what should u di?
Ok I went to do my hiv test.. this month makes the third month... I thought I might have been ask risk because I had oral sex with a guy who was positive and I didn't know..... my doctor wants to do another test just to make sure everything is everything..... should I test again..... or should I leave it alone.... because ever since December I have been more than stress I have been in HELL.. most people say oral sex is low risk.. some say its high risk... some say it takes 10-15 years to show

Answers:

Risk of transmission of HIV through oral sex is extremely low, but there is some risk. Although it may take several years for symptoms to appear, it does not take that long for someone who has HIV to test positive.

More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months after getting infected. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive. Testing is recommended 3 months after possible exposure, with retesting 6 months after possible exposure.

A negative test 3 months after possible exposure is a good indication that you are probably fine, but for your own peace of mind, it would be good for you to get retested 6 months after your last possible exposure.

Anyone who tells you it takes 10-15 years for someone to test positive is wrong.

I do HIV education and testing.

Keep testing and testing and testing. it seems scary to want to know you have it. but you should definitly want to know then can help keep you alive a really long time.

p.s im sorry for what you are going through
