Polycythemia sufferers undergoing phlebotomy...?!

Question:

Polycythemia sufferers undergoing phlebotomy...?

Hi, I am 32 and recently diagnosed with PV , I wanted to know how do you react to having a phlebotomy?? I usually feel very tired and short of breath afterwards for several days. Sometimes my heart feels like it is going too fast, and I break out in a sweat if I do anything strenuous. I don't know if it is because I have only been doing these for a couple months. Also, my platelet count is staying very high, wont go down. But I don't want Chemo. Do these symptoms from phlebotomy ever get better?? Please let me know.

I am having blood removed about every 2 weeks. When I first started I was 4 pints too high, and suffered a stroke. I was hoping my body would adjust to the lower levels eventually.
Thanks!! :)

Answers:

try to prepare yourself better for the blood tests. drink lots of water prior to the tests and eat soon afterwards. let your doctor know about your symptoms.
