What type of doctor treats a Wide Mediastinum and would anyone know what symtoms!
Question:
What type of doctor treats a Wide Mediastinum and would anyone know what symtoms accompany this?
How serious is this and what in plain terms is it exactly and where about in the body is it located?
Thanks in advance.
Answers:
The mediastinum is the area behind the sternum (breastbone) in the area between the lungs. It totally rests on what is causing the widening (that is a radiographic diagnosis not necessarily a medical one). Depending on what is causing it would determine who treats it. It could be widened because there is bleeding there due to trauma; large lymph nodes due to infection, cancer etc.
