What does a high level of Eosinophils, combined with low MCV and high RBC count !

Question:

What does a high level of Eosinophils, combined with low MCV and high RBC count mean?

In the past month I have been seen by two doctors, one said he found problems with me (whom I can not see any longer), while the other said I was fine. I am concerned, since my lab results showed that I have a high level of eosinophils (40%), low level of MCV (76), and high level or RBC (5.86 M/uL). My lymphocytes and neutrophils are slightly low (11 and 46% respectively). Also, my eosinophils went from 8.7 to 40 in a matter of three weeks. What can be the cause of this? Is it serious?

Answers:

An elevation in your eosinophils usually means allergies of some type-we usually see very high levels with allergies to medication. Your neutrophils and lymphs are low because they are expressed as percentages-higher eosinophils means lower everything else. However, given the other abnormal levels of your blood it should not just be ignored-at the very least your provider needs to recheck your CBC in a couple of weeks to see if your levels are normal again. Your MCV is a measure of the size of your red blood cells-iron deficiency is usually the culprit when it is low but other blood disorders and internal bleeding can also cause it to be low. It all could be nothing but I would certainly want another blood test in a couple of weeks.
