my ear hurts really really bad

I used to get ear infections all the time when I was younger.
With me it'd just be like a aching deep in the ear, or very sharp pain.
Sometimes it would feel like there's some fluid or something in it, and it'd also be harder to hear.
It always hurt the worst at night, when I was trying to sleep.
I'd feel dizzy, too.
If not dizzy than just a lost of balance in general.
I used to get infections so frequently they just stopped taking me to the doctor.
At night I would take a piece of cotton ball and roll it up and put it in my ear, not deep at all... just at the edge enough for it to stay in there.
It helped a lot, for it kept air and noise out.
