Sore Throat--2 weeks--Help!?!

Question:

Sore Throat--2 weeks--Help!?

On Tuesday it will be 2 weeks since my sore throat started. I went to the doctor a couple of days after the beginning and I tested negative for strep and he said it was probably something viral but just to wait it out. Then, I called back to the doctor last Tuesday (sore throat was then 1 week old) and he prescribed Amoxicilin. I've been on the Amoxicilin since last Thursday, and I'm still not seeing any improvement. I plan to call the doc again tomorrow, but does anyone have any ideas?

It is also strange that my pain seems to alternate sides of my throat each day. There are no "patches" on the back of my throat either that may indicate strep.

Help! Thanks!

Answers:

your tonsiles might be swollen. i get this a lot, and it isn't strep, but it does hurt. remember, strep tests aren't 100% accurate; you could be positive. try not to opt for the instant test; it's usually less accurate.

feel better!
