Chicken Skin on Legs?!
Question:
Chicken Skin on Legs?
I have little dots on my legs, I'm guessing around the hair follicles. It looks like I have goose-bumps, but they aren't raised. The common name for it is "chicken skin," I think. Is there any way to get rid of it? I've tried tanning, but it just makes them appear darker. Any suggestions?
Answers:
It's called keratosis polaris (sp?) and it's hereditary and not curable. You can keep it under control through chemical and manual exfoliation. I recommend reading about it at dermadoctor.com and then trying different things for exfoliation and moisturizing until you find what works. My skin responds well to salicylic acid, so I use Neutrogena pore-refining toner (yep, on my arms and legs) before I moisturize and a lotion with alpha hyrdoxy acids. But sun also helps mine go away, so your best bet is to go visit your dermatologist and see what he/she recommends (for example, Retin-A works for some people) and then play around with it on your own. TONS of people have this, by the way. Good luck!
