Question:

Does anyone know any home remidies for head lice that can be used and wont be harmful during pregnancy?

Answers:

You can use either mayonnaise or hair conditioner to *stun* them . I haven't tried the bug-zapping comb yet, but I'm going to buy one this week - there wouldn't be any side-effects with it. :o)

I'm a family daycarer, and the kids are always bringing them in. Since I'm not allowed to use chemical treatments on the kids, I've started using mayo... and it DOES work. Something to do with the acidity or something, plus it smothers them.

Just put gobs of room temperature mayo on your hair, coating it throughly, and comb through.
(You have to use enough to totally smother the bugs.)
Put a shower cap on, and let it sit for half an hour or longer, and then comb through with a nit comb to remove the headlice. Make sure you get them all.
Then just shampoo and condition as normal.

Repeat in 5-7 days, to get the nymphs that have hatched from any eggs you've missed.

Using hair conditioner does the same thing - smothers them - and you do it the same as the other treatment...shower cap, etc.

Other natural products
Battery operated lice combs, which detect and stun lice, are non-toxic, and have recently come onto the market.
Headlice products on the market that are made from natural substances such as essential oils cannot necessarily be presumed effective. Joanna Ibarra, Programme Co-ordinator of CHC, says: "Neither the conventional synthetic pesticide medicines nor the 'natural' alternatives that are currently in use are fully effective against head lice and their eggs; this is leading to application after application being poured onto vulnerable heads. Treatments should all be used with special caution on infants, during pregnancy and breast-feeding and people with asthma, eczema and allergies".

I hope this helps.....
