How can I avoid inhaling second hand smoke in a smoky working environment?!

Question:

How can I avoid inhaling second hand smoke in a smoky working environment?

I am a card dealer working in a casino filled with cigerrette smoke all day. It is no secret that second had smoke can kill you. I asked my supervisor if I can wear a mouth mask at work and he said no. Is there any way I can prevent second hand smoke from getting into my lung and throat? For example, are there any nostril sprays or any invisible masks that I can use? I need this job and I cannot quit.

Answers:

Unfortunately, this is where freedom of choice comes into play. The casino has a right to allow their patrons to smoke and you have the right to not work there. Because by becoming an employee, you agree to the working terms and conditions of the casino. That's why your boss can deny you a mouth mask at work.
If you're really concerned, find another job. There are lots of casinos that are smoke free. Otherwise, if you do develop cancer down the road, you won't have anyone to blame but yourself unfortunately. You won't be able to hold the casino responsible. Good luck in your decision.
