My friends dad has cancer on his tounge and throat can he survive?!
Question:
My friends dad has cancer on his tounge and throat can he survive?
the doctors said its advanced and his chemo hasent worked hes getting raido therapy will he die or how long has he got left please some 1 tell me straight thank you very much xx
Answers:
If he does fool everybody and lives (which isn't likely, particularly if chemo hasn't worked), he will be saddled with disfigurement, be unable to chew or swallow, and be unable to speak. He will need a feeding tube placed through his stomach wall. Unfortunately, once the cancer is in the tongue, it becomes almost impossible to treat.
The amount of time he has left depends on when and where the cancer spreads (metastasizes). He may die from hemorrhage when the cancer eats into his arteries (there are lots of veins and arteries in the head and neck). My guess is less than a year, but nobody can say for sure, not even the doctors.
If he was my dad, I'd look into hospice care. They keep patients comfortable and work with them, and their families, toward accepting the inevitable as being another part of life.
Sorry to hear of their difficulties. You are a true friend for hanging in there with them through this incredibly difficult period!
