Are there ants at the beach?!

Question:

Are there ants at the beach?

I'm highly allergic to ants (if I get bitten by even a black ant, the spot gets swollen to more then twice it's size and I need antibiotics in order to stop the swelling. My doctor even wants me to start carrying the shot with me so if I get bit, I can take the shot.) and I am going to the beach this summer. If I walk barefoot on the sand, will I get bitten by ants? Do they live in the sand? Thanks!

I'm going to Jone's Beach in New York. It's not a great beach but I don't think there is any grassy areas nearby

Answers:

There are no ants at any beach I've ever been to...there ARE sand fleas.
