Answers:

A "mild" or "small" heart attack just describes that the heart was only mildly effected by the heart attack. Heart attack generally is describing when part of the heart cannot get enough blood flow and therefore has an injury to it.

Sometimes this injury is permanent and sometimes it is not. Even if it is permanent, people live long healthy lives with good medical management.

A mild heart attack is something to take seriously, most people get on an aspirin, ace inhibitor, beta blocker and a cholesterol medication. This combination helps keep the heart healthy, prevent a further heart attack and reduce the risk of permanent damage from the heart attack. If he had a stent placed (opens blockage in the coronary artery) then he needs to be on something like Plavix for about a year.

It is good you are worried about your dad. He probably needs to know that you are worried about him and love him and want to help you. You can all sit down as a family and do some meal planning to help reduce his cholesterol intake, increase his fiber intake and make sure that dad is getting some exercise. It can be a family event.

Dad's don't like to admit that there is something wrong with their body and it can be hard to admit that your dad is human and that something bad could happen.

It would be good to sit down with him and talk about your fears.

Generally, most people do fine as long as they follow the medical plan, get exercise and a healthy diet, reduce stress, avoid too much alcohol, STOP SMOKING and work on lifestyle changes.

Good luck.

All of the other information is good but your dad is not "in good shape" Driving a truck long distance means that he eats at truck stops which probably caused his heart attack in the first place. This will have to change dramatically. Next, he needs to get some daily exercise and will have to learn to incorporate it into his daily life. Next, he needs to monitor his blood pressure and his cholesterol levels, both also contribute to heart attacks if left unchecked. Voice your concerns, get him to go for walks at a brisk pace with you whenever he is home, do some research on "low cholesterol diet" so that you can help encourage a more healthy eating pattern and choices. Encourage him to have regular check-ups with his doctor and cardiologist. If he does all of this, he can live a long, long life. He needs to follow his doctors advice exactly to help prevent future heart attacks.

it means he had a scare, now the doctors know this, everything possible will be ok to prevent this again, as hes in good shape im sure this will just mean a change of diet, and no smoking if he does smoke, im sorry for what ur going through at the moment, hope he is ok, im sure he will be fine.

good luck to you and him and your family.

As it was only a mild attack he should take this as a warning that he needs to look after himself. There is no reason why he shouldn't recover fully if he does look after himself and live to ripe old age.
