Can any one help me find an answer to my back pain????

i have suffered lower back pain now for six years now, with it affecting my daily life. 10 years ago i was fit, loved walking,swimming,horserideing. now i can only reflect back on the memories,because i cant do it anymore!! i have numerous amounts of pain killers over the years, but hey, never helps the pain!! i paid for an xray at my local chiroprator, which he said my back is chronic!! but my gp disagrees. my problems lie from the l4&5, & my sacroiliacfacet joints, with pain,& numbness which radiates from my lower back, and spreads down both legs,and also get terrible pains in both my heels, my gp said there is no xray, scan or operation that can help me... i feel angry, frustrated every time i leave the surgery, with the same painkillers, which i tell them does not work!!!! i just want to cry!!! because i know there is something wrong, and no-one listens!!!

I am no doctor and I don't trust chiropractor's (bad experiences with them)

Sounds to me like some sort of Nerve in your back is being pinched something like Sciatica, pinched nerve or a slipped disc

But from what I have read about this - an MRI might be able to help diagnose a problem with the soft tissues in the lower back instead of the bones - there are other tests that can be done.

If you are unhappy with what your doctor is telling you might I suggest you ask for a 2nd opinion perhaps with a doctor who will listen to you when you say the painkillers aren't working.
