AwFUL itchy patches between fingers/knuckles!!?!

Question:

AwFUL itchy patches between fingers/knuckles!!?

seems every summer this happens, may through august
without fail, I get severe itching along my knuckles and the tops of my fingers, leaving terrible red marks, that turn dry and rough and flaky, the itching happens only in summer and towards morning, waking me up in misery! it looks terrible.!!
for a few days it let up and healed, FINALLY!! then again, bam!! its only in summer and only my hands. I use fragrance free laundry soap and face cleansers.I used cortisone cream and it helps a while, but recurs? I dont feel its excema, cause its seasonal. making a paste of oats and water helps relieve the itching, its messy though and have to cover my hands with gloves to sleep in :( its unsightly and miserable.
could this be a seasonal allergy making me itch?? it started about 3 years ago and never in winter??? weird!
any one else have this??

I also take benedryl and it helps some...what the heck??

I don't think you ever get a definitive answer to dry skin conditions. About three years ago I got an itchy patch on the inside of one finger when cleaning out the guinea pig. So I thought this was something in the hay. But It got worse and at the time I was eating a lot of salted peanuts so I thought this was the trigger. Stopped eating nuts and it only improved slightly. Other patches appeared on my neck and at the backs of my knees. The GP (doctor not the pet) prescribed creams, no improvement patches just got worse. Then I tried eating pro biotic yoghurt's everyday. Again an improvement but this didn't last. Then started taking cod liver oil capsules everyday- another slight improvement but not lasting. Don't gag, my friends dog licked the backs of my knees, it was heaven more soothing than any of the creams but I couldn't encourage this could I although by now I was desperate the find a remedy. Finally applied some really strong hydra-cortisone cream while continuing all of the above (except the dog thing). Miraculously it has cleared up now and no remaining skin damage.
