I need advice..quick..can you help?!

Question: I need advice..quick..can you help?
I am a certified CNA working as a home health aide...I have a new client...today was my second weeek in and I offered to shave him...he agreed....now he is in a wheelchair and being he is a 80+year old man does not have family or friends his house is not too clean...its actually pretty bad..anyways he has many razors and I was looking for a fresh one....could not find one...he pointed at one he uses often I grabbed it and took a wash cloth(with my gloves on) and swiped the blade using my nail to get into the crevises(sorry about spelling) well second time I felt it through the rag and glove and I freaked out but figured there is no way it went through the wash cloth and my glove and cut me..but it did...right under my nail...I quickly dropped everything...ripped off the glove...rinsed the cut and being he had no sanitizer or alchohol or anything of that sort..I grabbed mouthwash the golden yellow one that stings when u gargle with it and i poured half a bottle onto my cut...figured it had some alcohol..guy has no soap or paper towels napkins...so anyways I have this weight on my shoulders of how serious it can become...should I just clean it daily and move on or should I get a shot or inform my boss...im so nervous..!!! Sorry I wrote so much

Answers:

Inform your boss. Get it documented, and they can set you up with screenings to make sure that you have not contracted anything.

To the additional details: Wet material is infectious, dried material is much less infectious. See the site below, take a deep breath, and relax. What's done is done, but it sounds like you do not have much to worry about. You do want to get future screenings, 1. to ensure nothing was transmitted, and 2. for your peace of mind.

you really need to inform your boss and get it documented. people do cut themselves with razors, so i would err on the safe side and report it. if it becomes infected or you require any treatment, you will need the report to back you up that it is something you did at work.

i have done home health care through a few different companies. i am also a CNA. if there were situations like you have described, any of the places i worked at would work to get cleaning supplies in the residence (most of it occurred at no cost to the client). you may want to share the lack of cleansers and supplies in the residence too, in case they can help in any way.

good luck! i would be a little worried too. you just never know what could be on anything.

Well instead of worrying, just inform your boss just incase this does happen and see how he reacts, if wants you to wait it out, then wait it out, and he was to take procedures of it then listen to him, but no matter what tell him for the sake of it getting infected and u could inform him it was from that incident. What u would do now is just keep it clean, put two bandades over it...just make shure you clean it as you are a CNA, and if it gets infected they have to cut the part off, remove tissue, or drain it...

Not a big deal as you think, Better to be safe then sorry tho! :)
